Scott Bruckner - Sculptor

Hanger Project

initial concept

The "hanger project" is an Artist's Challenge sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita, California.  The City commissioned 6 artists to select a store from the Town Center Mall and then create a piece of art using  their own choice of items from the store. I chose the Black Cow, White Market women’s store.  All of their clothing is black and white.

My design will consist of 120 hangers, each one painted half white, half black.  They will spiral upward on a 60" metal rod.

On display through January 10, 2010

"Black and White Cascade"

Over 50 individually hand painted hangers were used in this 4 foot tall piece.  Scott typically creates sculpture from found objects, milled lumber, and copper.  Much of his work includes curved wood which is retrieved from lumber  retailers in warped condition, and then is heated and bent further for a dramatic affect.  Douglas fir is used predominately due to its bending tendency.
