Some artists find it hard to know when a piece is
truly finished. With this piece, the first process
in my work starts with raw material that is soaked
in hot water, bent and tied, and hung to dry. At
this point in making the sculpture, there was
meaning that was observed by several people that saw
the structure and commented that it looked finished
just the way it was hanging. The piece was
"installed" along a long wall of white, suspended
close to the wall, but out far enough to catch the
breeze in the house and slowly move from its
suspension in the ceiling. My thanks to Michael
Glen who collaborated in the installation of this
piece in a residence in San Diego County. |
